Utility companies nationwide are suggesting that consumers investigate the services of third party energy suppliers.

For residents and businesses Central Maine Power states:

“Your electricity bill has two parts: delivery and supply. CMP is your electricity delivery company; we maintain wires and poles, read your meter and restore power during an outage. You can choose who supplies the electricity delivered to you by CMP. Competitive electricity providers (CEPs or suppliers) supply power to Maine homes and businesses. CMP is required by statue to include the supply charges on your electricity bill and to pass your payments on to suppliers.”

Maine Public Utilities Commission: “Electricity supply is the energy that is supplied to you use each month.  Electric customers have the option of choosing an electricity supplier or using the default supplier (also known as the standard offer). Maine's electric delivery utilities do not set the rates for electricity supply, they simply bill on behalf of the suppliers so that customers do not receive two bills.”

ConEdison, New York: “Energy service companies offer a variety of incentives, pricing models, payment options, and other services designed to fit your needs, some even offer clean energy solutions. Contact several suppliers and compare offers before you pick the one that’s best for you. If you decide to choose an alternative supplier, you’ll need to provide your 15-digit Con Edison account number to enroll.”
